Let’s get acquainted

Hello, I’m Paul. I currently work as a spiritual director and mentor in Lincoln, Nebraska. My wife and I are happily married and have four adult daughters. I provide mentoring and spiritual direction services in person and online to people across the country.

I am a Christian with an ecumenical perspective and a respect for any serious spiritual seeker. I am open to companioning anyone in their personal journey, honoring each person’s faith tradition or soul work.

What is my call to spiritual direction?

I’ve offered one-with-one spiritual companionship for over 35 years. I sensed a call to be trained to offer a specific type of soul companioning called spiritual direction. I completed an intensive training program in Spiritual Direction from CenterQuest in Pasadena, California.

What uniqueness, strengths, and gifts that are a part of my spiritual direction ministry?

My story includes being a healthcare provider and business owner for forty years. I sense a calling to companion others to pursue their own calling at various life stages.

I am opened to sitting with others as they deal with life’s challenges particularly health concerns.

Others describe me as hardworking, having an expansive heart for truth, and a listening heart that is just a call away.

What happens in a spiritual direction session?

During a spiritual direction session with me, you’ll explore your spiritual journey in a safe, nonjudgmental conversation.

We may discuss spiritual practices to deepen your faith or sit in silence as you discern God’s will or presence.

Spiritual direction is meant for busy ordinary people whose family and work lives seem to devour their time.

Our time together is a moment to hit the mute button on the world’s busyness and noise to give your heart full access to God.

The companion process can occur in a few sessions or over several years. We usually meet once a month and the sessions last about one hour.

What image best describes the spiritual direction process?

For me, spiritual direction is like the two disillusioned disciples walking along the road to Emmaus when Jesus joins them. (Luke 24:13-35) The three of them walk a journey of discovery together.

Jesus listens to them tell of their shattered hopes and dreams about God. As the two men walk with Jesus, he gradually helps them to see the plan of God in their circumstances.

One person may have more life experience and spiritual discernment. Nevertheless, Jesus is the teacher. Jesus is the one who opens eyes and hearts to new spiritual realities.

A spiritual director walks along side others as they open their hearts to the Divine.
